Here's a checklist of items to think about when ordering a Timber Ridge saddle:

1. To get started, determine the best fit for your horse and the type of tree you desire based on your equine's breed and build:
The material the saddle tree is made from is not as important as the fit of the tree. Whether polymer, flex or wood, the trees are made from strong durable material. We strongly recommend doing a saddle tree fitting, so you can ensure you get the best, most comfortable fit for you horse or mule! Types of trees: Heavy duty polymer trees in 6 ½” gullet (semi-QH) or 7” gullet (full QH) and mule trees (narrow and wide) are available. The polymer tree is only available in seat sizes up to 17”. Flex trees in traditional quarter horse bars (6 1/2" gullet), full quarter horse bars (7" gullet) are available in size 15" to 17". The 7" gaited flex tree is available in a 16" or 17" seat (in a completed saddle, the 16" fits like a 15.5" and the 17" like a 16.5" seat.

Wooden trees wrapped in fiberglass come in all different sizes/types including Gaited, Draft, Friesian, Mule, Semi and Full QH, A fork, Wade, Bowman roper, etc.

Large seat sizes 18"- 21" are available in wood trees for QH, gaited, draft, Friesian and mule.

The best way to determine the tree you need is to have us send you the tree to try out the fit for your horse prior to having your saddle built.   We will be constructing a FAQ page for some ideas on picking the right tree for your horse.  Our home page tells you more about the saddle tree fitting procedure!

2.  Pick a saddle design:

Review the Timber Ridge saddles.    Not all saddles are available on all different trees.  Determining which tree will fit your horse or mule best will let you know which saddle style to choose from.  For example, if you have a draft horse, you will want to look at only the Draft Saddles page.

3. Determine the options you want:

Leather color,  leather type, seat type and color, tooling, etc.  Take a look at our Hand Carving/Tooling page.  Pricing on tooling and stamping varies--contact us if you need more information.   Custom tooling may be available at an additional cost.  Upgraded soft leather is now available.

4.  Pick a seat size that fits you:

Because you spend long hours in the saddle, you want comfort also!  If you have a saddle you ride currently that fits well...measure that seat from the front of the seat to the top of the cantle.  That is your seat measurement.  Our seat measurements are a true measurement (except on the gaited flex tree as stated above).  So, if you are unsure of the size you need...take a measuring tape and measure out 15", 16", 17" or whatever size you think you will need.  Sit on the tape and visualize that you will have the pommel in front of you, the cantle behind you.  Determine what size seems like the right amount of room for you.  Seat size is based some on your size, but more on your preference.  Some people like a tight fit..others prefer a little more room to move.

Seat sizes offered from 15" to 17" as well as special orders for larger 18”-21”(wood trees only).  Larger seat sizes cost more because of the additional leather and materials needed.

5.  Other options:

Montana silver is available —prices vary.  If you would like to add the silver accents, please e’mail holly@wyomingsaddlery.com  for pricing.

We can also add additional saddle strings, dee rings and other rings if the saddle model you want doesn't already have them where you want them!  Price varies.   Different options are available, so feel free to ask!  We can run saddle strings through the leather rosettes as on M12 (shown on Mule Saddles page), or run them through silver conchos as shown on M11 and M13 (Mule saddles page) or hang them from small clipping dees as shown on M1, M9 and several others.  Or, we can hang saddles strings from the larger footman's loops as shown on WP1 ( shown on Western Pleasure/Trail page).   Just consider what and where you will be attaching to your saddle.

Do normal western saddle fenders not fit you?  We can custom build fenders in shorter lengths or longer to comfortably fit you.  Cost is usually around $30.00.

6.  Determine what tack you need to go with your saddle:

Matching headstalls, reins, covered stirrups, breastcollar, rear cinch and breeching  can be ordered  with your saddle or separately.  Contact us at holly@wyomingsaddlery.com
to order.

We can also change the stirrup type if desired.  We have standard laced stirrups, laced bell stirrups with a 2 1/2" tread depth, sewn bell stirrups,  laced or sewn bell stirrups with a 3 1/2" tread depth, square roper stirrups, oversized stirrups with a 6" width, and tapadarros.  Oh...and white rawhide laced stirrups in regular or roper styles.

Just ask us!  We can roughout jockeys/fenders  - or an entire saddle (standard leather in natural color only).  We can stamp initials or names on the saddle.  We can add rope catches, horn wraps, rawhide accents, pommel rolls, etc.  This is YOUR custom saddle, so let us know what you want...we'll let you know if we can do it!!

ANY of our pleasure style saddles can be built without a horn.  It is an additional $10 charge on any polymer or flex tree saddles and free on any gaited, draft or Friesian saddle
